According to the Lisbon treaty which entered into force December 1st 2009 the governments, when appointing the next President of the European Commission, are to take into account the outcome of the EP-elections this spring. On this backdrop the various European political ‘families’ i.e. the liberals, the social democratic and the conservatives on a European level are nominating their candidates for the job.
So far Marin Schulz, Alexis Tsipras, José Bové, Ska Keller, Guy Verhoffstadt and Jean-Claude Juncker are nominated or is about to be nominated by their respective parties.
With this, additional excitement is being added to the elections for the European Parliament and in the EAPC we are looking forward to see a lot of creative and interesting political campaigns the following months.
