With only three days left, the EU leaders gather at the European Council in Brussels on Saturday to decide who will take on lead roles in the EU institutions. The EU leaders are still to decide on the next president for the European Council and the next EU foreign affairs chief.
The summit on Saturday follows an earlier attempt in July which ended in a deadlock. Here the President-elect, Jean-Claude Juncker, asked the heads of state to reconsider their stance over the summer.
Various names have been mentioned in the media. Amongst other, the Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt was earlier this summer a hot topic in the European capitals as a replacement for Herman Van Rompuy as EU president.
