On the backdrop of the elections to the European Parliament, the European Council will gather on May 26 to 27. The council consists of head of state and head of governments from the 28 Member states and is chaired by Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council.
One of the topics on the agenda is the process towards nominating a new President of the European Commission. According to the Lisbon treaty, the governments, when appointing the next President of the European Commission, are to take into account the outcome of the EP-elections. In this regard, the conclusions of the meeting and the following months will indeed be exiting to follow.
