The latest exit poll shows that the EPP will remain the largest group in the Parliament and the S&D will be the second largest. Despite a significant drop in electoral support, the two groups will probably still control over 400 seats in the Parliament.
The exit poll also indicates the electoral shift that has happened in a lot of the member states. Hence 64 Members are elected but not allied to any of the political groups so far. If these members can unite their differences and form a new group, they can potentially become bigger than the third largest group, ALDE.
Every political group must be made up of 25 MEPs from at least 7 Member States, without prejudice to the composition of the EP at the opening session on 1 July 2014.
