The 19th Annual conference of the European association of political consultants devoted to crisis management in political communications took place in St. Petersburg, Russia on the 29th-31st of May, 2014.
This year hotel the Kempinski Moika 22, located in historic center of the Northern capital of Russia, and St. Petersburg State University, the oldest educational institution of Russia, became platforms for a meeting of leading experts in area of political consulting. As organizers of conference the European association of political consultants, Agency of strategic communications “Niccolo M” and the Russian association of political consultants acted.
The first day of The 19th EAPC Conference
The president of EAPC Jan Juul Christensen and the president of the Russian association of political consultants Igor Mintusov opened The Conference. The first day was devoted to discussing the features of a political consultant in terms of different types of crises in political communication. In Russian panel “Domestic Trends in the Next Decade” were some of the best Russian experts who have experience in public institutions and social movements: Leonid Gozman, Dmitry Oreshkin and Sergey Markov.
Necati Özcan, the vice-president of EAPC and speakers from the Republican People’s Party (CHP), the main opposition party in the national parliament of Turkey, Safak Pavey and Aykut Erdoğdu told about Turkish Elections, Personal Crisis and Democracy Crisis, Human Rights and Corruption in Turkey.
In the next panel John Iversen from Denmark had a speech about Personal Decision that Turned into a Political Crisis on the Case of the Former Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Elif Dorduncu Aydemir from Turkey analyzed evolution of a Leader from Local to International Aspirations on a case of Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the panel “Leadership and Crisis”. Also the speakers of this panel was Ekaterina Egorova with theme “Leaders and Crises. Personality Factor” and Ales Mikhalevich with theme “Personal Resource as a Necessary Condition of a Politician’s Participation in an Election Campaign”, who spoke by Skype.
The last panel in the first day was held by Skype with experts from USA – Ken Feltman and Gary Nordlinger, who spoke about Crisis in Political Parties.
History and culture in the heart of St. Petersburg
Social Program at the first of the Conference was included Boat trip on the rivers and canals of St. Petersburg and delicious dinner at nice restaurant Petrovich, a wonderful place with a special atmosphere of St. Petersburg. The day was ended the watching/ viewing the lifting of one of the most beautiful bridges in St. Petersburg, Palace Bridge.
The second day of The 19th EAPC Conference
The second day of EAPC-2014 proceeded on a platform of Law department of St. Petersburg State University. In final day of conference the presentations were made by political consultants of Ukraine Andrey Kruglashov and Elena Derevyanko— they invited conferees to discussion on political crisis in Ukraine. With Russian View on this Crisis had a speech Yevgeny Minchenko. Speakers from Republic of Belarus Andrey Vardomatsky and Andrey Porotnikov shared exclusive cases about electoral behavior of Belarusians, and also discussed influence of power structures in elections in the country. The guest from Malaysia Nurul Shamsuri told about instruments of work in the sphere of political communications and crisis management which are used in her country. The colleague Nurul from Russia, the CEO of the Interium company, Valery Sidorenko told about work bases with negative information on the Internet in political communications. Features of elections in the European countries discussed Alisauskiyene’s Time, Yussi Pick and Gulfem Saudan.
The 19th Annual conference of the European association of political consultants came to the end with grandiose gala dinner in a mansion of the well-known Russian ballerina Matilda Cshesinscaya, the part of the The State Museum of the Political History of Russia.
