Local elections in Turkey will take place on the 30th of March and will be a significant factor in the Turkish Presidential election to be held later in the year. The most decisive battle for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is whether or not they can keep their current stronghold in Istanbul. Loosing Istanbul will, along with the ongoing corruption scandals and the minister discharges, demoralise the party and create further uncertainty about Erdoğan’s chance of winning the Presidency.
